On a promontory above the bay, the priory’s roots reach back to the Merovingian period, associated with Leodovald, the future Saint Leonard and first bishop of Avranches. According to Abbayes de Normandie, the estate, a fief of William the Conqueror, was bequeathed at his death in 1087 to the Benedictines of Saint-Étienne Abbey in Caen, who built a priory around a square courtyard.

Commendam led to the community’s decline in the 17th century. Sold as national property during the Revolution, the estate became a farm. The Romanesque church, mainly from the 12th century and built in granite and schist, was restored in the 1980s. Its contemporary stained glass comes from the Loire workshop; it also contains a 15th-century statue of Saint Leonard.
